Event Name: Yateley 10k (1 of 3 in series)
Date: June 5th, 2002
Time: 7:30pm
Distance: 10km
Location: Yateley, Hampshire, England.
Weather: Rain, 11€C, Wind 10mph gusting 15mph.

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I had a crap race and finished
in a crap time.

My legs have been aching all over for the last few days. I don't know why,
I haven't done many miles recently. I think it had something to do with my
very heavy weekend. I drank from 9am 'til 6pm on the day of the England
game, and I did another all day session on Monday at a jubilee concert and
danced all night.

The weather was horrendous. The start/finish was in the middle of a field,
and there was rain water running across the field. Everybody had to walk
through ankle deep water to get to the start. The start and finish
consisted of wading through mud and water.

The rest of the course consisted of a long hill (2k-ish) at the beginning,
followed by a similar length downhill, then flat before a steep hill near
the end.

I didn't run well, my average heart-rate was 6 or 7 beats lower than it
should have been. I think I came about 35th in 37:23.

I thought I could run 36:30, maybe 36:45 given the conditions, so I am
disappointed. I've taken a look at my training log and I think I can see
the problem. I'm just not running enough miles. Most other people who run
at the speed I do talk about doing 40 or 50+ mile weeks, and I have just
worked out that I have averaged 22 miles per week over the last 3 months.
So I'm gonna get my head down and put some serious miles in to build up my
aerobic base.

KM Time AHR MHR
1 3:39 162 177
2 3:55 178 181

4 3:29 184 184

8 3:46 183 180
9 3:51 182 185
10 3:44 186 202* (5k in 18:53)

* This is a new record for me, and my first time over 200bpm.
