The Katy Trail 5K is a fund-raiser for Dallas's only rail-trail, the Katy
Trail, which currently runs 2.25 concrete-paved miles from Knox St. to the
American Airlines Center, with no street crossings. It's a nice place to run
and will become even nicer if they ever get around to putting down the
soft-surface jogging section they've been promising for a while.
Unfortunately, the time of year they choose to hold their fund-raising 5K
isn't so nice. Thursday was warm and humid. I ran the first mile relatively
hard (7:30) but then was totally gassed and just jogged the rest. A very
popular race, at least partially because of the post-race part which included
food from a number of area restaurants. I had to take off almost immediately
but still had time to grab some soft tacos from one booth and chicken wings
from another.
