6-1-02 Heights 5K Fun Run (Houston)
Out and back on the historic neighborhood blvd.
Overall Male Luis Armenteros 15:04
Overall Female Jackie Rzepecki 17:28
AG Winner (50-54) Miguel Lopez 17:34

Gun time only and only times of those who placed were recorded. Started my
watch at the gun and never thought to set the mile splits but did remember
to set the first split at the finish.

I planned for sub 23 but my first mile was 6:50. (not 7:23) And thought "I
am in trouble" knowing it took a few seconds to get to the start line and a
couple more to get up to pace in the crowd. I am not good with math while
running so all I could think was just keep going. Don't remember much. Did
not feel too bad till the turn around. By the second mile I really wanted to
quit but never really considered it or slowing to get relief. Just kept
going, trying to get some air. All I thought about was air and the finish
line and maybe form & cadence once or twice. Wish I had set the second and
third mile split so I could see my slow down. I only remember the first
mile as it was called out.

My time 21:58 on my Timex.

Next time negative splits. But I know if I had seen 7:20s as I planned I
would have just done sub 23 and not pushed. My only 10K time indicated 24:20
and I knew that was too slow. When I solo tested sub 23 at the track I only
thought I was pushing. And I guess in the future I will realize I only
thought I was pushing Saturday.

Thanks for reading my report of my first 5K.
